The head honcho, boss man, musical director and leader of The Best Sing Since Sliced Bread is Philip Read.

Philip is dead proud of having graduated in 2019 with a diploma in Modern Choir Conducting from the Royal Academy of Music in Aalborg, Denmark. However, he’s been doing all sorts of singing and choir leading since 2008, including….

MAN CHOIR

Philip is the founder and conductor of MAN CHOIR, Oxford’s community men’s choir.

Here’s one of their lockdown videos from 2020.

The Spooky Men’s Chorale

Philip has been a member of the extraordinary and unique acapella group The Spooky Men’s Chorale since 2011, with whom he has performed at festivals including Womad, Camp Bestival, Tønder, Rudolstadt and renowned venues such as The Sage in Gateshead, the Sheldonian Theatre in Oxford and The Royal Philharmonic in Liverpool.

The Rivers

In 2017, as part of his studies at the Royal Academy in Denmark, Philip founded and conducted The Rivers, a modern vocal ensemble.

The Rest

Philip is currently working on plans for a new world vocal ensemble, is a regular guest on BBC Oxford, is always trying to improve his skills as an arranger… and would generally get more things done if he spent less time on Facebook!
